DIY Tutorial: Captain America Patch

Hey everyone! In this post I’m going to show you how to make this Captain America’s shield patch so you can show everyone that you’re on team Captain. Here’s what you need:

  • Fabric (any fabric should work, thicker the better)
  • Fusible interfacing (Optional)
  • Embroidery hoop (Optional)
  • Blue, red, and white threads
  • Needle
  • Pencil
  • Scissors

First, you can print this template I made here and prepare your fabric. If it’s a little bit too thin then use the fusible interfacing by ironing it to the back side. Once your fabric prepared, lay it flat and trace the template either using sewing carbon paper or make it as a stencil like I did.

Trace the template to the fabric

After the template has been transferred, mount the fabric onto the embroidery hoop. This will make it easier to embroider. Start with the star on the middle by using white thread.

Fill the images with satin stitches

Fill the shapes as you go using satin stitch. Use an actual picture of Captain America’s shield as a reference.  Once you’ve done, now take the fabric off of embroidery hoop and then you can cut along the shape. Remember not to cut it too close to the edge or your stitches will come undone.

Now you can put your stitches anywhere you want! If you have fusible adhesive for fabric, you can just stick it to the back and iron the patch, but you can always stitch it to your backpack, jacket or anything you like.
