Finally, after months of brainstorming, my very first episode of Today’s Attempt is here!
In this episode, I’m going to show you how to turn your plain text block into a Gravity Falls’ Journal. So, without further ado, here are the tools and materials you will need:
– Text Block or Notebook with soft cover (Notebook polos berjilid tipis)
– 2 mm Craft Board (Karton Dupleks 2 mm)
– Gold Cardstock (Karton Emas)
– Red Covering Paper (Kertas Merah untuk Sampul)
– Pencil (Pensil)
– Ruler (Penggaris)
– Brush (Kuas)
– Cutter (Pisau Pemotong)
– PVA Glue (Lem Putih)
– Empty Pen/Ballpoint (Pulpen Kosong)
– Bone Folder
– Permanent Marker (Spidol Permanen)
– Masking Tape (Selotip Kertas)
First of all, you will need a Text Block in order to make this journal. I learned how to make text block by watching my favorite DIY guru; Sea Lemon DIY. Head to her video here if you want to learn how to make the same exact text block I used in this project. If you don’t have time to make the text block by yourself, you can always use a plain notebook you already have. Just make sure that your notebook has perfect bind.
Measure your text block or notebook, cut two pieces of craft board for the cover and another one piece for the spine. Don’t forget to add about 1 cm on the height of cover.
Prepare your covering paper, I choose red covering paper which usually called by “Linen Import” if you try to find it in Indonesia (The name of this paper may vary depending where you live). You can use any kind of paper as a substitute if you can’t find anything like I use. Make sure that the paper isn’t too thick so it’ll be easy for you to handle.
Glue the craft board pieces onto the covering paper, take your time and be very careful so you won’t get any wrinkles or air bubbles under the covering paper. Use a bone folder to smooth out the surface after you glue it, if you don’t have bone folder use something flat like ruler or ice cream stick. Then, trim and glue the edges as well.
Once you have your craft board covered, you’ll need to make the gold corner book covers from a gold cardstock. Well, maybe it’s hard for you to find gold cardstock and also it can be a little bit pricey, so for alternative, you can use any gold paper that easy for you to find, and if it’s too thin you can glue it down onto another cardstock.
I made a template for those corner book covers and the hand part on my computer. You can design the template by yourself manually or if you want to use my template, you can download it here. Take note that this template is for your personal use only and not to be sold or distributed in any manner.
After you have 8 pieces of corner book covers and one gold hand for the cover, glue it down onto the cover. Something that I forgot to say in the video is that you can fix any white crack that might show up in the gold cardstock by coloring it with gold marker.
Now, it’s time to glue the text block to the cover. Lastly, write down the journal’s number onto the gold hand on the cover.
And that’s it! Now you have your very own Gravity Falls Journal that you can use as whatever you want, I hope you like it and find this tutorial helpful! Don’t forget to check out my video for a better step by step instruction, also subscribe to my channel! Bye!
